Hypoglycemia in is common in Toy Breeds it is the sudden drop of the amount of glucose/sugar in the blood. Glucose is the primary energy source. Hypoglycemia is common in toy dogs and puppies 5 to 20 weeks of age. Onset of hypoglycemia can be caused by stress, fatigue, changes in food, sudden changes in feeding and watering schedule ,Change of enviroment or low body temperature.
Common Signs of Hypoglycemia:
*Refuses to eat or drink
If your puppy is showing symptoms of Hypoglycemia you can treat puppy at home with
Karo Syrup, panacake syrup, (not sugar~free syrup) or Honey (all 3 are good sources of glucose).
~Coat puppy's gums with Honey or Syrup
~Repeat with Honey or Syrup every 5-10 mins.
~If puppy doesn't show improvement with in 15-20 mins. CALL YOUR VETERINARIAN
IF PUPPY GOES UNTREATED HYPOGLYCEMIA WILL CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE OR DEATH.
